Please come back to my blog after you see these before pics, it can only get better from here. I am joining in on the $100 Room Challenge!! You can read about why Erin started this challenge on her blog Lemons Lavender & Laundry I know the group of bloggers joining in will blow me away with their creativity. The goal is to make over a space with a budget of only $100 dollars in the month of July. We have 4 weeks and I already feel like the clock is going faster than it was yesterday. At the end of this post you will see all the other crazy amazing bloggers taking this challenge on too! I love a good challenge and this is going to be a big one! Wanna see what is just to the right of the above pic?
The dreaded hallway!!!!
I bought things for this hallway 3 or more years ago and it still hasn’t even been started. There is always something more important to tackle. But it is finally time!!!!
Drab hallway your days are numbered!!!! Gold paint and rainbow runner I am talking to you.
My home is on the small side. It is 1600 sq ft. The hallway is literally the middle of the house. You must see it and walk through it to get to any place in the house. It has been on my list of things making my skin crawl for a very long time.
For starters it is sooo dark. The only light it gets has to stream in from the rooms. So if any of those doors are closed it becomes a cave. I can’t change that. But I can brighten it up by painting it all white and adding some modern details.
I am craving the simplicity of the white and a resting place for the eyes because every room coming off of this small space is a different color.
I have never claimed to know what I am doing.
Glad that I got that off my chest.
But really, I started this blog mostly to share my journey as I update my house and find my style.
I am going to be so happy to see the mistake of this gold hallway erased. ERASED!!!
I have gathered some inspiration pictures on my HALLWAY board on PINTEREST
They give a pretty good idea of the direction that I am heading.
Let’s take a little tour…..
This is the view just to the right of the first picture. As you walk through the archway I like to refer to it as the east wing. (courtesy laugh now)
The door straight ahead is the hall bath (the guest bath and my boy’s bathroom for the last 12 years…that has been interesting and on a side note vinegar neutralizes pee, you are welcome). This bathroom is an orangey pink that had some sort of canyon in the name. It needs updating too but I have since visited Sedona and I love the color again. It reminds me of the red rock formations and the vibrant sunsets. It can stay…for a little while.
The dog crate is always there and I need to find a solution because I hate it!!!
The open door is my room, which is painted a gray called revere pewter by Benjamin Moore.
Do an about-face as you leave my room and you see this…..
This linen closet counter thing that they put in tract houses just to torture us.
It is my drop zone. Which is a fancy way of saying it holds all of my junkola, and yes that is a martini shaker. I have no explanation.
The laundry room and garage are straight ahead and one of the boys rooms to the left and the door to the right is a coat closet that I want to retrofit with all shelving.
Turn to the right and head the other direction…
Now you are walking back to the living area of the house and on the left you pass my other son’s room which is painted a deep blue.
You can see how it is the hub of my little house and how it desperately needs a makeover to help the other spaces flow. This hallway is a busy little place. There are 6 doors, a linen closet, a coat closet, the drop zone, we enter from the garage through the laundry room and you walk through to the living area of the house.
Which brings me to a few of the spaces that I have already made over that can be seen from the hallway.
The living room was my first makeover here on my blog and my first time participating in the One Room Challenge where I spent alot more than $100 dollars.

I did a mini makeover on my bedroom last fall after we got a new Tuft and Needle mattress which I wrote an honest review for…
When we bought this cookie cutter tract house in 2004 gold and earth tones were THE THING!! Over the last few years I have been trying to bring in the brighter whites, and bold blacks which pair with the warm wood I already have. I am slowly finding my style.
I am getting there!!!
I feel like this hallway will unite all of these areas and that my house will finally be a better reflection of ME!!!!
To be honest I have not completely finished brainstorming this project. I can finish with $100 because I already have the paint, and the door knobs. That will help tremendously.
Please come back next week to see my plan and the cost breakdown!!!

I know you’ve been wanting that hallway to be lighter n brighter for quite awhile Jess, so I can’t wait to behold the finished product! I can totally see Willow all snug as a bug in a cute converted end table instead of her cage~ I mean crate! LOL I think you ought to keep martinis in the shaker, on ice, and just grab it as you come in the door & head down your new hallway to relax:)!!

Good idea. Martini’s all around. You need to talk to your son about the dog bed. Pretty please. LOL!!!!

Painting the walls and all those doors white should be a big improvement. You’ll love it. How about track lighting to spotlight the walls and pictures?
I’ve signed up so I can watch the progress.
