BEFORE:
We started with a tacky 12×10 space that had too many nooks and drawers for a cluttered little guy to keep clean.
AFTER:
Now we have a streamlined and practical space that will be very easy to maintain. It makes us all so happy. I absolutely love the color!! It is very similar to the popular Hague Blue by Farrow and Ball. It is Balmy Night by Clark and Kensington.
Do you love mid century inspired pieces but can’t find affordable options? That was my scenario. I scoured resale sites for weeks trying to find a deal and came up empty handed!
But I found a dresser at IKEA and a desk from Hayneedle, I tweaked them a little with some DIY and they are exactly what I had in mind. I shared the links to them LAST WEEK. The bed and chair are hand me downs from big brother. It all came together pretty well.
I added mid century feet from Lowe’s to the dresser…
I also painted the drawer fronts on the desk white. It was a winning combo.
I needed a week 5.5 update to tell you about everything that went down this last week as we pushed to finish. One thing was that while installing the fan we broke the shade. Lamps Plus came to the rescue with their superior customer service and I had a replacement shade in no time. Doesn’t it look so good? It is a huge improvement over the white boob one that it replaced. It will be so much easier to clean too. It is soo good!! I linked to the lighting choices in Week 3.
While we are on the subject of lighting…the sconces, also from Lamps Plus , are wonderful! They have a dimmer switch too, which makes them perfect for over the bed!!! I have been wanting to add lights like this for so long and I was thrilled to find these that plug in so there was no fancy electrical needed.
The placement was kinda tricky. You can’t just move these easily, so that really put the pressure on me to arrange the furniture in a way that made everybody happy. Do you remember in week 1 when I said how Garrett is very opinionated about his room? It turns out that he got it from his dad. But after much compromise from everyone they both love it and I love that. Done and done.
With that said, we decided to put the scones flanking the newly trimmed out window because then they don’t have to be moved if and when the furniture gets shifted around.
With this layout we were able to make a little reading corner too.
This shade is from Blindsgalore, I chose THIS ONE. This is the nicest window covering that I have ever owned. It is lined with black out fabric and it is white on the back which is great because on the exterior it faces the front porch, which brings me to the fact that it is top down/bottom up!!! It’s amazing! it is so nice to let in light and still have privacy. Now he can sit and play video games in his underwear without the UPS guy seeing him. I think they call that first world problems.
It is really hard to photograph this room because of the large sunny window and dark walls. But you get the idea.
He loves this personalized initial print from JIBEPRINTS It is pretty cool!!
This Mexican serape and the one of a kind aztec planter from Avelynlane are dreamy. it is my new favorite etsy shop. She curates globally sourced finds like kilim pillows and rugs. Owning one is on my wish list.
I had fun with this grid mood board. It’s a DIY. I hope to get the tutorial up soon…be sure to subscribe to my newsletter at the top of this post so that you don’t miss it.
I wanted to make him an area that was his to have fun with and that could be easily changed to whatever direction the wind was carrying him. Thumb tack holes all over the walls are now a thing of the past. WooHoo!!!
These free printables were fun to put together, I pinned them all to my Teen Boy’s Room board on Pinterest….find it HERE and I would love if you followed me there because Pinterest is my favorite.
How fun is that scrap book paper? I have always wanted to use it somewhere. I will not throw paper airplanes. Love it!
