Let’s talk lighting this week, shall we? It’s week 3 of the One Room Challenge. I’m joining in as a GUEST PARTICIPANT along with 200+ bloggers to makeover a room in 6 short weeks. I’m doing my tween son’s room and in Week 1 I found out that he has some major opinions, which I really got a big kick out of. He takes after his mother, except that he hates stripes and I love them. Then in Week 2 I shared the before pics, oh the horror, including the door that him and his brother busted and the broken window shade being held up with his crutch. But we already received the new one from Blindsgalore and it is going to be amazing, can’t wait to get it installed and show you!!!! So lighting…..
*I received compensation to provide this post but all opinions are my own
I know that ceiling fans are the ugly duckling of ceiling fixtures and you should only use them if you have to. Well, we live in Southern California about 40 minutes from Palm Springs…the desert. It’s summer 90% of the time. Practicality wins and we use our fans like crazy.
Then the next best scenario is a fan without a light kit, again not happening. We need light and new electrical is not an option. One thing that is an option is a modern streamlined ceiling fan. I read an article HERE recently from a designer that I love, Studio Mcgee. It was all about how to use ceiling fans with a design aesthetic in mind. Most of their recommendations were something that I could never afford but it gave me a good idea of what to look for in a cheaper version.
My go to source is Lamps Plus. They have designer choices without designer price tags. Have a peek for yourself…Lamps Plus
I decided on this one…Trifecta in brushed nickel
His room is quite small. It is only 12×10. I needed a small fan and this one is 44″. It’s perfect for a small space. It has an LED light and I’m uncertain as to how much light it will put off. But….that is ok because we also got THESE beauties from Lamps Plus to mount above his bed.
I think that I am most excited about these than any other part of the room!!! Like Disneyland excited.
I am also super pumped about the color we chose. The first color was too green so we went with one that has more blue. It is called Balmy Night by Clark and Kensington. It is a dark, rich peacock blue. It is very similar to the ever popular Hague Blue from Farrow and Ball. I love it!!!
We are going for something along these lines….
I’m going to end this week with my to-do list and you can see that I actually have made some progress:
