One Room Challenge-Glamily Room-Week 5

One-Room-Challenge

Better late than never. The fact that it is Saturday and this post was scheduled for Thursday shows just how busy that I have been. Time sure can fly when you have deadlines. I met my first deadline last night…The garage was fully clean and my husband had his old band friends over to play music. Happy dance!!! What happened in the Glamily Room this week?

I found the perfect camel tufted leather ottoman on Craigslist for 75 dollars. Another happy dance!!! I spent all day Wednesday driving an hour and a half each way to pick it up. Then I spent the next day cleaning and conditioning it. It definitely has that worn look and I love it!!!

It saved me a cool $500 dollars because I could not touch a large genuine leather ottoman for less than 600 and even then it wasn’t tufted or the perfect size. So you could say that it was a day well spent. The best part is that when my family scuffs it and spills on it I can be happy that I didn’t get a loan out to buy it.

Because I had company coming to play music I had to get the living room presentable and I could not throw all the piles in the garage either!!! Don’t look in my closet..it is filled with bags of throw pillows that I bought because I dragged my feet on making a decision. Then I ran out of time to order anything online and so I went and bought every pillow in the near vicinity that might work.

I ordered one pillow and it wasn’t cheap. Of course it was the only one that I couldn’t take back and it was the one that just didn’t work. It didn’t look like the picture and it didn’t contrast with the paint enough. I’m pretty bummed about that.

These are the ones that will work for now until I find the dream pillows. That is unless I find something between now and Wednesday.

Speaking of paint….I originally wanted to add in Indigo pillows. But the paint turns midnight navy!!! It is still beautiful but it is a complex color that takes on different hues as the light changes. Having the dark moody color was not a mistake, it is cozy and inviting. So the indigo was not a good contrast with the wall but the blacks in these pillows bring out the black tones in the paint. I am trying to incorporate some blush pink because it’s different and striking against the dark walls. That is harder to do than it sounds though, it can turn bubble gum preteen room real quick.

Here is a little peek at the color.

Lighting:

I used a rope swag kit from World Market and a white shade from IKEA to hang over the corner piece of the sectional. After it was installed it didn’t work. The cord must have a short. So I have to go see if they have another one and if they don’t it is back to the drawing board. UGH!!

Today we install the Jolie Chandelier provided by Lamps Plus!!! I am looking forward to seeing it come together.

So how did I do?

My To Do List:

  • Pick out and purchase sectional, rug, and ottoman
  • Sell existing furniture
  • Paint
  • Install new shades and curtains
  • Hem curtains and rehang
  • Choose new lighting (I have a few in mind from Lamps Plus)
  • Hang chandelier
  • Hang drum shade in corner
  • Hang gallery wall around TV
  • Hang mirrors above sofa
  • Art above piano…possibly a DIY  (I will just be using a mirror that I already had)
  • Paint coat rack
  • Brighten up curtain rods with gold rub and buff
  • Possibly paint the green cushions on the black chair
  • Finalize pillow choices

My list grew again!!! Today I will be hemming my curtains with the help of a dear friend. My husband will install the chandelier and I will find a replacement for the swag kit. I am also going to search for a rug yet again. There is still so much to do, but we are inching our way closer.

See you next week on reveal day!!!!!

  3. You are one smart shopper!! That camel color is one of my favorite colors and you did a great job restoring its beautiful luster. Can’t wait to see if you are able to incorporate some soft pink into the picture ~ another one of my favorite colors! But, your hard work is paying off, it’s all coming together wonderfully!!
