A Soap Tray To Make Dishes Easier

Do you live in front of your kitchen sink? I sure feel like I do. It’s the never ending dance of grocery shopping, cooking, dishes and REPEAT. I often remind myself that we have dishes because we have plenty to eat and for that I’m so grateful. I recently added a soap tray next to my kitchen sink and I am loving it. Having all of my dish washing supplies at the ready in a soap tray makes the job just that much easier for the whole family. I included supplies like my new obsession, Scotch-Brite® Scrub Dots sponges and Scotch-Brite® Non-Scratch Scrub Dots Dishwand. I’m not the only one in the house that does dishes. My teenage boys do a lot of the dishes. It isn’t easy to stay on kids to do chores. I have to give my husband credit for pushing them to do chores and as it turns out I needed pushing too. It’s hard work!!!

The amount of effort it takes to get kids to do chores compared to the amount of chores that actually get done is kinda ridiculous, can I get an amen? But it is all part of the learning process. Not just for them but for me too.

One of the things that I have learned is that everyone wants to feel needed, including teenagers. So instead of just saying “do your chores because I said so” we tell them that we need their help. They learn the joy of giving and the dishes get done.

Hard work pays off and while we are still a work in progress they can hold their own. It has been worth the effort.

The funny thing is that we get lectured by the kids about rinsing our plates and using so many glasses. So one of the ways that I am making their chore easier is with this soap tray filled with everything they need. The Scotch-Brite® Non-Scratch Scrub Dots Dishwand makes it easy to wash your plate and load it in the dishwasher.

Making a soap tray:

  • Choose a tray that fits the space, I happened to have the perfect plate to use but there are some really great options online
  • Use a dispenser for the dish soap, it is always visible and it should be pretty, I got mine on Amazon
  • Find a vessel to hold the sponges, this one was from a thrift store
  • Set out a dishwand for quick cleanups
  • Provide a  Scotch-Brite® Heavy Duty Scrub Dots Sponge & a Scotch-Brite® Non-Scratch Scrub Dots Sponge

I buy my sponges at Walmart and they can be found near the dish soap.

These Scotch-Brite® Heavy Duty Scrub Dots Sponges & Scotch-Brite® Non-Scratch Scrub Dots Sponge are a game changer. Read more about them HERE

Let me tell you why.

THEY RINSE CLEAN…because of the Scrubbing Dots technology.

Do you know how food gets stuck in regular sponges?

Eggs and cheese are the worst. My boys make themselves eggs all the time and they always stick to the pan like this…

Now that I found these sponges I’m not stressing out over the sponges getting gunky. It is a win win. I was shocked at how well it took care of this messy job and fast! I used that exact sponge to clean up the egg mess. Look how clean it came!!! I usually have to use a nylon scrubber to get the stainless steel clean.

I am SOLD!!!

  1. I’ve been looking for a sponge that actually works, so I’m absolutely going to try those. Your boys are the most well-trained teenagers I’ve ever heard of, that’s for sure, and cute too!! Their Dad sounds like he’s a really big help too!!

  2. Your kitchen is so pretty Jess. I love the stain of your cabinets with the white counters and classic white subway tile. Wood + white gets me every time! I’ll have to try these sponges…….I spend half my life at the sink too!

  3. The soap tray is such a great idea! That is such a good point about letting the kids feel needed and that they are contributing to the family. I need to check these sponges out because mine are always gross! Thanks for the coupon!

  4. Amen to the chores issue! I’m stuck between being grateful to get any help and not complaining about a job not done well just so my dear son will still do something! I already know his someday wife will hate me. No room for a tray in my itsy bitsy sink area but I definitely will try the songes!
